Long-time lobbyist to retire
After 37 years representing clients under the Gold Dome, lobbyist Tom Boller is retiring from Capitol Partners Public Affairs Group.
After heading Georgia Power Co.’s lobbying efforts for a decade, Boller, 64, founded the group in 1986. Since then, he represented the State Bar of Georgia and other interests. Bill Rankin

Emory to house papers from local AIDS activist
AIDS activist Jesse Peel donated his papers to Emory University’s Manuscript, Archives and Rare Book Library, officials said Friday.
Peel, a retired psychiatrist, provided the library with journals, appointment books, subject files, correspondence, photographs and more than 80 audio tapes.
Peel said he chose Emory because of the library’s dedication “to preserving Atlanta’s history and its desire to include gay and lesbian history.”Laura Diamond

Residents offered free breast cancer screenings
Fulton County’s Women’s Health Division will hold its annual breast cancer awareness event 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Adamsville Recreation Center, 3201 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, S.W., Atlanta. Residents can get free breast exams, blood pressure checks and glucose and HIV screenings at the “Mowtown Melodies-” themed event.
The division has a breast and cervical cancer prevention program at six health centers, providing exams and mammograms at no cost to uninsured, income-eligible Fulton residents ages 40-64. The Atlanta centers are Adamsville, 3700 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr., S.W.; Lakewood at 1853 Jonesboro Road, S.E.; Neighborhood Union at 186 Sunset Ave.; and the Center for Health and Rehabilitation at 265 Boulevard, N.E. Five Forks library reopens Monday
The Gwinnett County Public Library will reopen the Five Forks branch Monday. The renovations include an upgraded interior, an energy efficient HVAC system and new high-tech features including a “Tech Studio” allowing library customers to access professional software for image and video editing, design and media creation.

Cobb Mentoring Matters, a volunteer mentoring program, is seeking mentors. Mentors go through an orientation and background check and are paired with a student at a local school. Mentors are asked to meet weekly with students.
