Rep. Scott to student awards ceremony

Rep. David Scott will host an awards ceremony March 19 for students participating in the 9th annual Congressional High School Art Competition.

In nine years of hosting the competition Scott has awarded more than $300,000 in scholarships to local students.

This year’s top winner will receive a $10,000 Art Institute of Atlanta scholarship, $1,500 a year from Savannah College of Art and Design, a one-year membership to the High Museum of Art and the winning artwork will hang in the U.S. Capitol for one year.

Bill York to speak at historical society

Author Bill York will speak at the Gwinnett Historical Society meeting at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse, 185 Crogan St., Lawrenceville.

York is a World War II Navy veteran and host of wilderness documentaries for Georgia Public Television. The event is free and open to the public. David Wickert

Leadership program offered to students

Leadership Sandy Springs has launched a youth organization for high school students who will be sophomores and juniors in the 2011-12 school year.

Forsyth parks activity guide online

The Forsyth County Parks and Recreation Department Spring-Summer Activity Guides are available now online, offering a detailed schedule of events, classes, programs and camps offered by the county March through August, including fees where they apply. DeKalb Workforce Development is collaborating with the United Way of DeKalb County to host the “2011 Employment Readiness Fair” on March 31.

The fair is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Decatur Conference Plaza, 130 Clairemont Ave., Decatur.
