Marietta seeking WWII veterans for parade

Marietta and the Georgia Military Vehicle Preservation Association are looking for World War II veterans to participate in the city’s Let Freedom Ring parade July 4.

A military vehicle will be provided for vets to ride in along the 1.5 mile parade route.

Public hearing on motel tax increase

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing on increasing the motel tax from 5 to 8 percent at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Citizen’s Hall, Douglas County Courthouse, 8700 Hospital Drive, Douglasville.

The extra income would be used for “tourism product development,” according to House Bill 543.

Paulding to hold airport meetings

The Paulding County Airport Authority will meet 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Paulding Northwest Atlanta Airport, Terminal Building, 730 Airport Parkway, Dallas off U.S. 278.

Then the Paulding County Industrial Building Authority will meet 10 to 11 a.m., also on Wednesday in the same location.

Fulton marshals offering teen program

The Fulton County Marshal’s Department is taking applications for its junior deputy program this summer.

The program is open to teens 12 to 16 who are Fulton County residents, attend school in the county or has a family member who is a county employee. During the two-week session, to be held July 7 - 18, participants will learn about careers in law enforcement and criminal justice as well as life skills.

The application deadline is June 6.

Stone Mountain library to hold book sale

The Stone Mountain-Sue Kellogg Library is holding a used book sale at 10 a.m. June 13 and 14 at 952 Leon St., Stone Mountain.

Proceeds from the book sale will pay for library activities and supplies and fund a scholarship for an advanced degree in library science.
