Solid Hires to sponsor veterans career fair

Solid Hires-Premier Hiring Source will sponsor a free Department of Juvenile Justice veterans career fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, April 18 at VFW Post 2681, 140 Powers Ferry Road, Marietta. While the primary focus will be on juvenile correctional officers, teachers and registered nurses, a wide range of positions are available.

Applications open for Taste of Fayette

Vendor applications are now being accepted for the 12th annual Taste of Fayette taking place May 19 in downtown Fayetteville. The event showcases food from local restaurants as well as information about other area businesses and charitable organizations. Booths range from $50 to $100; deadline is May 15.

Expo has conservation workshops

DeKalb County will host its annual Green Expo for residents and businesses 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Georgia Piedmont Technical College’s conference center, 495 North Indian Creek Road.

The expo will feature workshops on conservation and rain barrels and include local green businesses demonstrating eco-friendly products and services.

East Point ticket amnesty ends today

The East Point municipal court will offer amnesty to people with unpaid traffic or parking tickets through today. Also, at the discretion of the judges, additional “failure to appear” fines may be waived. Drivers who have had their licenses suspended are eligible for a release from the court department once they’ve paid off their outstanding fines. People with active warrants should contact the probation department. Municipal Court is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Woodstock launches communications app

The city of Woodstock has launched Connect Woodstock, a new communications app designed to give residents access to important city info and as way to submit service requests. The city partnered with software company PublicStuff to create the app, which can be used by iPhone, Blackberry and Android, among other devices.

Peachtree Corners fights crime

Three neighborhoods in Peachtree Corners — Amberfield, Fox Hill and Peachtree Station — will host the second annual Peachtree Corners COPS meeting 6 to 8 p.m. April 17 at Simpsonwood Conference Center, 4511 Jones Bridge Circle.

Speakers will include West Precinct Crime Prevention Officer, Shane Kelly, Peachtree Corners Mayor, Mike Mason, Gwinnett Chief of Police, Charles Walters and Gwinnett County Deputy Chief of Police, Tom Savage.
