School district releases bus safety video
The Cobb County School District, the Cobb County Police Department and American Traffic Solutions have released a public service announcement on YouTube to educate the community about how the CrossingGuard school bus stop arm safety solution works. It also highlights the role of law enforcement, the penalties issued, and the importance of school bus safety.

Leonard named Superior Court judge
Gov. Nathan Deal has appointed Robert D. Leonard II to be a judge on the Cobb County Superior Court, filling a vacancy created by the resignation of long-time judge George Kreeger.
Leonard has served as judge on Cobb’s State Court bench since December 2010. Deal must now fill this State Court vacancy. Before becoming a judge, Leonard was a private attorney, once serving as vice president of the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Bill Rankin

Veterans Day parade in Stockbridge
The city of Stockbridge will host a Veterans Day parade today beginning and ending at the Merle Manders Conference Center. Registration and check-in begins at 9 a.m. and the parade starts at 10 a.m. There will be a luncheon for veterans immediately following the parade. Participation is free but registration is required. County bans bullying in the workplace
Fulton County employees face stiff penalties for bullying each other under a policy approved unanimously by the County Commission. Under new rules proposed by Commissioner Bill Edwards, workplace bullying is a fireable offense and punishable by a minimum of five days suspension without pay.
The policy defines bullying as “repeated, health-harming mistreatment,” including verbal abuse, threatening or humiliating conduct, work sabotage or exploiting a psychological or physical disability.

Synagogue conducting “food stamp challenge”
Members of Congregation Beth Shalom are taking part in a national challenge to limit the cost of meals to only what would be covered from federal food stamps.
The Food Stamp Challenge also encourages others in the community to live on $1.50 per meal or $31.50 for a week’s food. The event, which runs through Nov. 17, is designed to draw attention to the 15 percent of Americans who live below the poverty line.

Hutchinson appointed to Superior Court
Gov. Nathan Deal has elevated George F. Hutchinson III to the Gwinnett County Superior Court bench. He succeeds Judge William “Billy” Ray, whom Deal appointed to the state Court of Appeals.
Hutchinson has served as a Magistrate Court judge since 2004, including the past five years as chief judge. He previously served as a senior assistant district attorney in Gwinnett and as an assistant district attorney in the Coweta Judicial Circuit. Bill Rankin
