Police arrested three Cherokee County men Tuesday night after a witness called 911 to report shots fired from a SUV in Canton.

Byron Elrod, Darron Brown and Brian Miller, all of whom are felons, were found in possession of a stolen handgun and arrested during a traffic stop near Bells Ferry and Sixes roads, Canton police spokesman Officer Pacer Cordry said.

The shooting was reported about 9:43 p.m. near Crisler Street and Jefferson Circle. This is the same area where 23-year-old William Kendrick Randall of Canton and 26-year-old Tony Samples of Ball Ground were killed in a triple shooting last month, Cordry said.

Jeremy Ulysses Zellous, 29, of Marietta, is charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, making false statements and tampering with evidence in connection with that incident, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported.

Canton police Chief Mark J. Mitchell said detectives are investigating whether Tuesday’s shooting — in which no one was injured — and the fatal triple shooting are related.

“My hope is with our strong presence, the arrest from last night and our active investigation with the homicide case toward further arrests, these efforts will greatly improve the quality of life for the good citizens who live in this area and bring justice to both of these criminal acts," Mitchell said.

Elrod, Brown and Miller were in the Cherokee County jail on charges of aggravated assault, theft by receiving, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon during the commission of a felony and reckless conduct.

The bond for each man is $69,150, the sheriff’s office said.
