Prominent and controversial pastor Rob Bell will give a talk and sign copies of his new book, "Love Wins: A Book About Heaven, Hell, and the Fate of Every Person Who Ever Lived" tonight at North Avenue Presbyterian Church at 7 p.m. Thursday.

In the book, Bell, who pastors a church in Michigan, takes on traditional understandings about heaven and hell.

Bell said he sees people going through hell on earth. "I see people going through hell all the time -- greed, abuse, genocide, rape, scandals, people being robbed of their life savings."

It's time, he said, for change.

"We need in our culture to claim the very pure, beautiful Jesus," Bell said. "The message has been there all along but it occasionally gets hijacked by others."

The church is located at 607 Peachtree St. NE. The event is free but a ticket is needed to attend. Tickets are available at A Cappella Books, 484 Moreland Ave. in Little Five Points.
