Columbia High School in DeKalb County will be closed for classes on Friday after a fire at the school Thursday morning caused officials to evacuate students.

But students aren’t getting the day off.

They are required to come to the school at 2106 Columbia Drive on Friday morning. Students will then be transported by bus to nearby schools for classes, DeKalb school officials said.

Ninth and 10th graders will be taken to Towers High School; 11th and 12th graders will spend their day at Columbia Middle School, . Students will be brought back to Columbia High for dismissal from there, school officials said.

The fire started in a transformer located outside of the gym, according to DeKalb fire department spokesman Capt. Halani Lobdell.

The electrical fire put itself out and Georgia Power was called to the school, Lobdell said. The power was shut off. No one was injured during the incident and the fire was confined to the outside transformer.
