The U.S. Department of Agriculture has awarded College Park’s Metro Atlanta Urban Farm, the city’s only fresh farmer’s market, a $222,663 Capacity Building Grant to improve residents’ access to healthy food options.

“We are excited that we were able to seek it out, apply for it and get the good news of being awarded this huge grant,” College Park Mayor Jack Longino said in a press release. “Securing this grant for the Urban Farm will create a healthier food source for many of our citizens.”

The farm, led by Bobby Wilson, sits on a five-acre property at 3271 Main Street which was established in the 1880s. It has training opportunities for local citizens and parcels for those interested in chemical-free farming. Fruits and vegetables grow year-round on the farm, which uses solar panels and collects underground spring water for hydration.
