A College Park man was sentenced Thursday to life in prison for stalking and raping a former girlfriend, the Fulton County District Attorney's Office announced.

Tyrone McCallum, 41, was found guilty of rape, aggravated stalking and burglary for the Aug. 6, 2010 attack.

He kicked in the door of the woman's south Fulton County apartment around 4 a.m. and snatched the phone away from her as she was dialing 911, authorities said. When he left for a short time, she barricaded the door, but he kicked it in again and sexually assaulted her, officials said.

Police responding to the disconnected 911 call arrested him on the scene, where he was using the restroom following the attack.

McCallum had a history of violence against the woman, who ended their relationship in 2009. In April 2010, he was arrested for a previous assault. He was ordered to stay away from her, but three months later, he was arrested and his bond was revoked after he kicked in her door, officials said.

McCallum is not eligible for parole because of previous convictions on burglary, drugs, weapons and criminal trespassing charges, authorities said.
