College Park Fire Rescue will be checking fire hydrants around the city starting April 6. Testing will run thru April 10 and will be 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. During this time, if water discoloration is observed at the tap, please let the faucet run for a brief period until it is clear.
Twice annually (April and October) College Park Fire Rescue conducts inspections to assure the hydrants are operational, provide adequate water flow, and maintain adequate system pressure. The testing that occurs in April, and in addition to the general maintenance inspection, includes a full flow test (which sometimes requires the flowing of large amounts of water), and the documentation of static and residual pressure readings. The testing which occurs in October, in addition to a general maintenance inspection, includes the documentation of static pressure readings only.
During both testing periods the area around the hydrant is inspected to be sure it is clear of obstructions (debris, shrubbery, fences) which may prevent or hinder access should the hydrant be needed.
