College Park Mayor Jack Longino announced that the city has secured a major road widening project for the Buffington Road corridor at South Fulton Parkway, next to the world headquarters of Chick-fil-A and the South Fulton Coca-Cola distribution center. The project will add two lanes to Buffington Road from U.S. 29 or Roosevelt Highway to Royal South Parkway. Early in 2015, the city held a vote to allow the annexation of additional businesses along the Buffington Road corridor.

“Infrastructure improvements represent a tremendous opportunity for both College Park and the surrounding vicinity to realize significant opportunities,” stated College Park City Manager Terrence Moore.“I’m truly pleased with our progress. This new found capability will enable city administrators to execute tremendous partnerships with our newly annexed businesses, as well as with Chick-fil-A and Coca-Cola. I am confident this will yield achievements and successes that would otherwise not be possible.”

“College Park has great relationships with state-level government, and I believed this project would yield huge benefits for our corporate partners, including Chick-fil-A and Coca-Cola,” stated Longino. “I communicated that to the Georgia Department of Transportation and legislators, and they agreed.”

According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, preliminary engineering for this project will commence in 2016. Additionally, a project to add turn lanes between Buffington Road and Sable Chase Lane has also been programmed to improve traffic operations nearby. Construction for both projects is expected to begin by 2020.
