A University of Buffalo football player from DeKalb County died Monday, seven days after he collapsed at practice.

Solomon Jackson, a 2013 graduate of Tucker High School, was a redshirt sophomore defensive end at Buffalo, where he majored sociology.

He had been in the hospital since Feb. 22, the university said.

“All of us who had the pleasure and good fortune of knowing Solomon will remember him as a truly bright light on the field, in the classroom and around campus,” athletics director C. Allen Greene said Tuesday in a letter to the university. “We will remember him for his love of the game and his love of life. The best way we can honor his memory is for each of us to keep those values close in our own lives.”

The university will pay tribute to Jackson with a moment of silence before Tuesday night’s men’s basketball game.
