Cobb County officials are seeking comments from Cobb residents on hazard mitigation planning.

This initiative is aimed at lessening the impact of natural hazards faced by Cobb and the cities within Cobb by completing an assessment of the hazards and how vulnerable the county is to those hazards, according to a county statement.

Among the natural hazards - cited in the survey - are lightning, thunderstorms, hail, wind, hazard materials, tornadoes, dam failure, drought, inland flooding and severe winter weather.

Then the county’s next step is to come up with mitigation projects for each hazard that affects Cobb and its jurisdictions.

Completing an approved hazard mitigation plan also will open a stream of funds for the county, the statement added.

As a followup to a Cobb County open meeting held via webinar on April 1, now input is needed on the plan by residents to give their valuable experiences and ideas to the planning process.

Their feedback will help Cobb Emergency Management Agency staff complete this plan update.

All input is welcome, and residents did not have to attend the April 1 webinar to participate in this survey.
