For the first time in eight years, the Cobb County School District will hold a major hiring fair to recruit several hundred new teachers from 2 to 6 p.m. April 15.

Update: The location of this job fair has been changed to McEachern High School because of a larger-than-expected response to the job fair, according to a news release from Kevin Kiger, the Cobb School District executive director of employment. The original site was to have been Smyrna Community Center.

"We have so much interest in coming to work for our district that we are moving the event to McEachern High School to handle the volume of applicants," Kiger said in announcing the change. "We love the Smyrna Community Center and are thankful for their support of our district, but the larger capacity of McEachern allows us to give applicants a better experience and the event a touch of Cobb."

The job fair will be at McEachern High School, 2400 New Macland Road, Powder Springs, 30127.

Principals from all schools will be setting up interviews, Kiger said.

The school district is the county’s largest employer, with more than 13,500 employees and greater than 111,000 students.

More than half of Cobb teachers hold advanced degrees, and about 100 Cobb teachers are National Board Certified.
