Cobb County has received a $957,788 grant to provide salary and fringe benefits for 12 full-time victim advocates and two part-time victim advocates.

Funding from the Prosecuting Attorney’s Council of Georgia will go to the Victim Witness Unit of the District Attorney’s Office, Cobb Judicial Circuit.

The Cobb County Board of Commissioners accepted the grant Oct. 9.

The Prosecuting Attorney’s Council of Georgia allocates funds from the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council to eligible prosecution offices for the operation of victim service programs.

This grant will require a match which will be met through the use of volunteer hours and advocate pay.

There will be no impact to the County General Fund to accept these grant funds.

However, these positions will be terminated should grant funds not be renewed and no other alternate funding source is available.
