An update has been given by Cobb PARKS officials on projects that are being funded by the voter-approved referendums on a Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax for 2011 and 2016.
Funds are being used for revitalization, facility renovations and upgrades to parks and facilities. Here is a list of current projects:
- Construction of the conversion of eight natural grass fields to synthetic turf at Hubert Soccer Complex (four fields), Mud Creek Soccer Complex (three fields) and Terrell Mill (one field) is substantially complete. All fields are open to the public.
- Installation of the rubberized walking track surfaces at Hurt Road Park, Mud Creek Park and Sweetwater Park has begun. The walking track at Mud Creek has been completed. The installation at Sweetwater Park is underway. The rubberized track installation at Hurt Road Park is scheduled to begin after the softball season ends.
- The preparation of a new PARKS Master Plan has been completed and will be presented to the Board of Commissioners.
- Construction will begin soon on the parking lot and restroom building near the community garden at Green Meadows Preserve on Dallas Highway.
- Construction of the PARKS Administration Complex is underway. All site fire, sewer and domestic water lines have been installed. The foundation and slab have been poured, and the structural steel installation has begun. The shop building renovations are nearing completion.
- Construction for the improvements at Price Park has begun. The site has been cleared, and the gravel parking lot has been installed. Installation of the masonry for the restroom building has begun. Installation of plumbing and electrical under the building slab has been completed. The building concrete slab has been poured.
- Proposals for the design of the new operations and agricultural processing complex at Hyde Farm were received, and the award for contract was approved by the BOC. Design work is underway.
- Mabry Park has multiple projects in progress, including installation of a horse fence along the property, binder installation along the roadway, storm drain installation, grading at the restroom location, installation of boardwalk helical piers and sidewalks along the park roadway, sewer line installation and installation of the water line under the entrance road.
- The structural steel has been installed for the new Event Center at Jim R. Miller Park. All of the slabs have been poured, and the masonry work is underway. Duct work and plumbing are being installed. Nearing completion is installation of the exterior sheathing.
- The contract for the new electronic message board at Jim R. Miller Park has been signed, and the design and permitting process will start shortly. The message board will be visible from Windy Hill Road from both directions.
