Cobb County Schools will discuss whether to apply for a Race to the Top grant from the state at Wednesday's school board meeting.  If the board applies and receives the grant, it  will receive millions of federal dollars. But there would be several strings attached such as higher test scores and standards for teachers and principals and a narrowed achievement gap between white and minority children.  The district will use the funds on college- and career-ready and other innovative programs.   The board meeting will take place Wednesday from 8:30 to noon at Cobb County Administration building located at 514 Glover Street in Marietta.
