Every Cobb deputy will be equipped with a Taser weapon because of an Aug. 8 vote by the Cobb County Board of Commissioners.

For $154,368, Cobb Sheriff Neil Warren said in a memo to County Manager Rob Hosack that 117 Taser weapons will be leased for five years from Axon Enterprise Inc. “to provide each deputy the additional option of the less lethal weapon.”

“Even though the need to equip the deputies is immediate and critical, the procurement plan is to spread the purchases over several years, primarily due to training,” Warren said.

However, the first third, or 39, will be available immediately, he added.

Cobb County will own the devices at the end of the lease.
