Making Strides of Atlanta presented by Independent Insurance Agents For A Cure will raise funds for research and critical services on October 29.

Here’s exactly what All-Star Chem-Dry doesn’t want: Someone with breast cancer weak from treatments embarrassed about their dirty carpet with family coming over for the holidays.

That's why the Cobb County carpet cleaning company is offering its services free to any breast cancer patient.

It and other Chem-Dry franchises throughout Atlanta offer the deal all year, but is making a special push because business has slowed down, so the company has more time to help out.

“It’s frustrating if you’re sick and just sitting there looking at dirty carpet,” said Shelly Browne, owner of the Kennesaw-based carpet cleaning franchise.

The company has had trouble getting the word out about their services, she said, with only two or three breast cancer patients who’ve gotten a free cleaning this whole year.

She said they’ll clean in Cobb, Paulding and Polk counties.

The company chose breast cancer as its cause, Browne said, because many of their customers are women, who make up the majority of breast cancer patients.

“Those are the people who we’re going into their homes every day, and we really wanted to do something for them,” she said.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 123 out of every 100,000 Georgia women in 2013 got breast cancer, and 22 in as many died of disease.

Another reason they’re able to cater to cancer patients is their eco-friendly products that skimp on harsh chemicals.

“When we know that someone is immune comprised … we make sure we don’t use anything that can bother them,” she said.
