The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada has presented the city of Atlanta with its distinguished budget presentation award for the third consecutive year.

The GFOA award also lauds the city of Atlanta for its pioneering efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America.

“This is a great honor, not only for the Department of Finance, but for the city as a whole,” said Jim Beard, Chief Financial Officer. “In receiving the GFOA Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, the city is recognized for its hard work in satisfying nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. We take our role as public servants seriously, and hope that Atlanta residents will take pride in the fact that the city’s budget has been recognized for excellence for the third year in a row.”

The city of Atlanta’s budget was evaluated on 14 criteria across four categories. A budget must receive a rating of “proficient” or better in all four categories to receive the award.
