Cherokee County will seek a $2 million state grant to pay for the resurfacing of five roads totaling 7.7 miles. The Board of Commissioners recently approved the application for Georgia Department of Transportation funding under the 2017 Local Maintenance & Improvement Grant program.

Roads to be resurfaced are Eagle Watch Drive in the Towne Lake area near Woodstock; Holly Brook Lane from Holly Street to the cul-de-sac, near Holly Springs; Holly Street from Bells Ferry Road to the Holly Springs city limits; Owens Store Road from East Cherokee Drive to Arbor Hill Road near Free Home; and Kellogg Creek Road at Cedar Mill Crossing near Lake Allatoona.

The grant requires a minimum 30 percent county match of $616,572.33. The total, estimated construction cost is $2.97 million and will be covered under the 2017 SPLOST budget for annual resurfacing, according to an agenda summary.
