Cherokee County has given its paving contractor the go-ahead to resurface 3.7 miles of Ball Ground Highway at a cost of $961,940.

The county Board of Commissioners approved the supplemental agreement to the 2018 Resurfacing Program, covering Ball Ground Highway from the Canton city limits to Airport Road.

The Cherokee Roads & Bridges Department had planned to do the job and had completed patching and preparation work, according to a staff memo. But once the work was started, it was determined that completing the project “was more than in-house forces could handle, specifically the traffic control functions.”

Bartow Paving Co. Inc. was asked to provide a proposal to the county to complete the installation of the asphalt surface, using the unit prices bid on the 2018 Resurfacing Program, staff said.
