Two Northside school districts have won grants in the third round of the Connections for Classrooms program, a three-agency state effort aimed at providing classrooms across Georgia with high-speed broadband access.

The Cherokee County School District was awarded $266,276.85 and is in line to receive the same amount in federal E-rate funding for a total investment of $532,553.70. Cherokee school officials said the money will be used as it replaces wireless access points at all schools with current/faster technologies.

Forsyth County was awarded $732,093.18. With nearly $500,000 in E-rate funding available, the total investment there would be $1,220,155.30.

In all, 48 Georgia local education authorities received more than $8.2 million in grant funds.
