Challenged by its cities to publicly negotiate a resolution to the service delivery strategy impasse, the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners will meet in executive session next week to decide its next move.
Commissioners on Tuesday approved a special called meeting 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, to discuss a resolution responding to the cities’ proposal. They will then vote on the resolution in open session.
The board also voted to ask the Georgia Department of Community Affairs to extend the deadline to produce a service delivery strategy – essentially, an agreement on who provides services like parks and road maintenance, and how they’re paid for – and the cities to support the extension.
The county and cities missed the deadline to file and can now be barred from receiving certain state assistance and funding.
The city councils of Canton, Holly Springs, Mountain Park and Woodstock have passed resolutions calling on the county to join them in public negotiations Feb. 26 in Canton, March 25 in Woodstock and April 22 at the county.
