Cherokee County residents have created a 2016 Ed-SPLOST Renewal Committee to get the word out about the Nov. 8 referendum to renew the Cherokee School District’s Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax.

Voters will be asked to approve a five-year continuation of the 1-percent sales tax for the schools. The committee urges residents to vote yes, citing six major funding areas: Construction, renovations, technology, transportation, land acquisition and debt retirement.

The panel is chaired by L.B. “Buzz” Ahrens, chairman of the Cherokee Board of Commissioners. Community representatives include PTA officers, parents, elected officials, business executives and civic leaders. A number of school district officials and educators are ex officio members.
