A little more than a month after launching a community survey, the Canton Police Department said it’s gotten overwhelmingly positive feedback — with a few scattered complaints.

The survey covers residents who have had prior contact with cops and seeks to measure officers on several metrics, including how well they’re protecting their neighborhoods, their level of community involvement and how they interact with the citizenry.

Overall, said chief Mark Mitchell, officers scored well.

Mitchell said the survey uncovered one case of an officer allegedly not listening to all sides of a story before issuing a citation, and another involving a supposedly lack of follow-up after a hit-and-run accident.

Mitchell said in the latter case, new safeguards have been put in place.

The chief also said survey respondents have tipped them off to narcotics offenses and other potential criminal activity, and that that information has been turned over to detectives.

The survey will continue indefinitely.
