It’s back to the drawing board for changes to the noise ordinance in the city of Canton, with a public hearing on proposed changes set May 5. The changes affect construction work. After Mayor Gene Hobgood’s veto of proposed amendments March 24, City Council late last week told city staffers to redraft the proposed changes, in effect upholding the mayor’s veto.

Hobgood’s key objection centered on a provision that would prohibit construction jobs from operating on holidays recognized by the city of Canton. Those include such days as Chrismtas Day and Thanksgiving and Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The mayor noted that other local governing bodies don’t ban work on holidays sanctioned by those jurisdictions.
