Five people have qualified as candidates for three seats up for election Nov. 7 on the Canton City Council. One of them is the city clerk the council fired earlier this year. CITY OF CANTON

A former Canton city clerk has qualified to run for a seat on the City Council that voted unanimously to fire her in April.

Susan C. Stanton qualified as a candidate in Ward 2, city officials said. She will challenge incumbent Bill Grant, who also serves as Canton’s mayor pro tem. Stanton had served as city clerk since November 2011.

Also qualifying as candidates in the Nov. 7 general election were council incumbents John Rust in Ward 3 and Sandy McGrew in Ward 1, and Nick Estes, who is seeking Rust’s seat.
