Several Canton streets are in line for an upgrade, under a state grant application approved by the Canton City Council.

The council finalized a list of projects it’s submitting as part of its 2016 Local maintenance Improvement Grant application due to the Georgia Department of Transportation by the beginning of the year.

The application seeks $189,000 in state funding for milling, repaving and re-striping stretches of Hospital Road, Dr. John T. Pettit, and Cherokee and Brown streets. The grant will be matched with city funding for a total project cost of roughly $279,000, said City Clerk Susan Stanton.

The council modified the project list at Thursday night’s meeting, removing stretches of East and West Main and Juniper streets and adding Cherokee and Brown because of severe deterioration of the last two thoroughfares.
