Buford commissioners are proposing a 2019 millage rate of 12.70 mills which will result in an increase in property taxes of 7.11 percent. A second and third public hearing on this tax increase will be held at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Aug. 5 at Buford City Hall, 2300 Buford Highway.
The millage rate of 12.70 mills is an increase of .843 mills. Without this proposed increase the rollback millage rate would be 11.857 mills. The proposed tax increase means approximately $75.87 more for a home valued at $225,000. For non-homestead or commercial property valued at $575,000, the increase will be about $193.89.
In addition to setting the millage rate, Buford commissioners will also hold public hearings on the proposed Fiscal Year 2020 Operating Budget at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. during the meetings. The millage rate and budget will be adopted at the commission’s regularly scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. Aug. 5.
A summary draft of the proposed budget is available for inspection 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at city hall.
