The Browns Mill Family Aquatic Center, located at 4929 Browns Mill Road, is closed for the day July 29 and officials hope to return to its normal operating schedule by July 30.

The DeKalb County Board of Commissioners voted Tuesday to cancel the contract with USA Management, the company providing lifeguard service for the Browns Mill facility. The termination of the contract follows USA Management’s failure to provide proof of certified lifeguards. DeKalb Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs is working to provide staffing at the location.

In the commission meeting, it was suggested that lifeguards from other pools may have to be brought in.

The closure comes after news outlets reported that a lifeguard at the pool called 911 instead of performing CPR on a boy who nearly drowned in the pool earlier this summer.

DeKalb County operates seven pools and those pools will remain at their normal operating schedule.
