The city of Brookhaven received notice from DeKalb County of an increase of property tax assessments.

Property owners in the city may see an increase in property taxes in 2015, depending on whether individual property was assessed higher or lower by the county this year. Determination of a property’s value is done by the DeKalb County Tax Assessor’s Office.

Other factors, such as homestead or senior exemptions, also determine individual property tax bills.

The proposed change will require a property tax increase by over 15 percent. The proposed tax increase for a home valued at $300,000 is about $43 and for non-homestead property valued at $200,000 is about $31.

Brookhaven will hold three public hearings on the revaluation of property tax assessments at Brookhaven City Hall, 4362 Peachtree Road 7 p.m. June 9, 6 p.m. June 16 and 7 p.m. July 7.
