A boyfriend who molested a woman's 6-year-old twins is awaiting sentencing after being convicted Thursday in Fulton County.

Gerald Bowen, 47, was found guilty of rape and other charges involving the daughter and son, whose mother failed to report the crimes to authorities. She pleaded guilty to child cruelty and was sentenced earlier to five years in prison.

Bowen will be sentenced next month. In addition to the rape charges, he was found guilty of aggravated sodomy, aggravated child molestation, child molestation and aggravated sexual battery.

The siblings told their grandmother about the abuse in June 2009. The grandmother had temporary custody of the children and when she learned about the abuse she alerted authorities.

According to Fulton district attorney spokeswoman Yvette Brown, the woman told police her granddaughter disclosed Bowen touched her “down there” on four different between January and May of 2009.

The girl’s brother later accused Bowen of also touching him.

"During the period of molestation, the little girl told her mother about the sexual abuse, but the woman failed to call police," Brown said.

The mother testified against her boyfriend during the trial. She pleaded guilty to cruelty to children in the second degree.

Bowen is scheduled to be sentenced July 18.
