Twenty-five Fulton County students recently won first place awards at the Georgia Educational Technology Fair, in Macon. More than twenty-five percent of the competition's first place prizes went to Fulton County students. Here are the high school winners:  3D Modeling grades 11-12:  Maryyann Landlord, Northview High School. Animated Graphic Design, Grades 9‐10: Monisha Narayanan, Chattahoochee High School; grades 11‐12: Robert Utz, Alpharetta High School.  Case Modification, grades 11-12: Matthew Boggs and Zachary Demaso, Fulton Science Academy High School. Digital Video Editing, grades 11-12: Jesse Luo, Northview High School.  Hardware, grades 9‐10: Jackson Morgan, Fulton Science Academy High School;  Individual Programming Challenge, grades 11-12: Yubo Su, Northview High School.

Julia Denniss from The Marist School beat out 19 competitors to win the 50th Annual Georgia Association of Educators State Spelling Bee. Julia, Georgia's first three-time winner, will represent the state in the Scripps National Spelling Bee Championships in Washington, D.C. in June 1-2.

Tritt Elementary fifth grader Brayden Holness won first place at the school, county and state level for the PTA Reflections Competition. Brayden's entry, "Together We Can Recycle," was in the Film Production Category. Tritt is in East Cobb.

The team from Union Grove Middle School in Henry County won the 2011 State Championship for the Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl at the University of Georgia. Team members are: Noah Booth, Sara Rose Carson, Hannah Dailey, Vianca Gonzalez, Tyrome Grant, Noah Nagel, Frankie Sotka, Nathan Rhineheimer and Chaz Viveiros. Coaches are Kristy Coughlin, and Kim Rhineheimer.

Sequoyah High School senior Rebecca Cottrill earned first place at the Georgia Junior Science and Humanities Symposium at the University of Georgia. The competition requires students to summarize their research with words and graphics in a visual display. The Georgia Junior Science and Humanities Symposium gives accelerated high school students the opportunity to present original scientific research to a panel of judges.

Victoria Cochran and Madeline Ryan,  sophomores at Creekview High School in Cherokee County, won Best in Discipline (History) at the State Social Studies Fair. Their project, titled  "More than Just a Game: The Olympics" focused on the history of the modern Olympic movement.
