For the past several years, Berkeley Lake has relied upon Gwinnett County for billing and collection of real and personal property taxes. There is a limited time between the date when the tax digest is provided to the city by the tax assessor’s office and when a properly established millage rate is set and provided to the tax commissioner’s office.

The city is required to advertise the millage rate and special called meetings before the millage rate is set.

On May 21 the Berkeley Lake City Council voted to approve an amendment to streamline the process and reduce the number of special called meetings required. This amendment will be most effective during years when taxes are not being increased above the roll-back rate.
