The Ball Ground City Council has awarded a contract to create a full sidewalk connection along Valley Street from Howell Bridge Road to downtown as part of the Valley Streetscapes project.
The council awarded the work to Excellere Construction LLC, low bidder for the project, according to the city clerk’s “Around Town” newsletter for October. The work is expected to begin in early 2019 and also includes the installation of curbs, gutters and a storm drain.
The area will landscaped, and a pedestrian shade structure will be constructed at Valley and Beck streets. The work will be funded by a $560,000 federal grant to the city.
Separately, the newsletter announced that the city has been awarded safety grants to plan guardrail installations on Old Dawsonville Road near Calvin Farmer Park, and on Old Canton Road at its intersection with Commerce Lane.
CNC Fencing will determine if guardrails are viable in these areas, given underground utilities that could hinder the setting of guardrail posts, among other issues. Information: https://bit.ly/2PEMkJj
