Avondale postpones vote on annexation map

Avondale’s commission didn’t vote on an annexation map “wish list” this week to give residents and commissioners more time to sort through financial data regarding the proposed annexed areas.

“The information’s coming in piecemeal,” said Mayor pro tem Terry Giager. “We didn’t even get the 2014 tax record for all the [proposed] properties [until Monday].”

Giager said commissioners will now vote on the map during a specially-called meeting Nov. 12. Amy Carter, chairman of the House Governmental Affairs committee, has given DeKalb County cityhood proponents until Nov. 15 to submit their maps. Giager reiterated that Avondale wants to vote on its own map before that date.
