Avondale Estates is forming two ad hoc committees, one for education and the other for green space. Deadline for submitting applications/resumes for either is 5 p.m. Sept. 10.
The education committee was a goal set by Mayor Jonathan Elmore during his election campaign last spring. Elmore wants to establish stronger relationships with county school administrators and representatives, ensuring that Avondale gets heard in discussions impacting its residents’ education options.
The green-space committee mostly originates from a paucity of green space included in early plans from Euramex Management. In the 17 acres Euramex will develop (counting four acres now owned by the city), current plans include only 1.2 acres of “public open space” (which doesn’t have to green). Elmore wants to identify an area of at least two acres as a future town square, while also figuring out how to better use the city’s three pocket parks.
To submit applications/resumes email, fax (404-299-8137) or deliver to City Clerk Gina Hill at Avondale Estates City Hall, 21 N. Avondale Plaza.
