The Atlanta City Council has approved the sale of liquor at sites formerly occupied by a bottle shop and Habitat for Humanity, giving a boost to the continuing redevelopment of Memorial Drive near Oakland Cemetery.
Council members passed ordinances exempting the projects from laws mandating a certain distance between liquor sales and other uses, such as residences. Members of the Grant Park Neighborhood Association previously voted to support the exemptions.
Urban Realty Partners is redeveloping the former Azar Package Store site at 275 Memorial Drive SE. The George, a six-story mixed-use project, will offer 130 apartments and 11,500 square feet of retailing including "a high-end bottle shop" and a restaurant.
Paces Properties, developer of Krog Street Market, is building Larkin on Memorial at 519 Memorial Drive SE. The 63,000-square-foot mixed-use project, on the former Habitat site, redevelops former factory buildings as stores, restaurants and offices. Its first announced tenant, Grant Park Market, will sell organic groceries, beer and wine and deli food.
