Atlanta will pay $289,037 to buy land in Buckhead to develop as a park, according to an ordinance approved Tuesday by the Atlanta City Council.

The 0.19-acre tract is at 751 Burke Road NE in the Peachtree Park neighborhood. It is next to the Peachtree Park Community Garden and an exercise trail maintained by the Peachtree Park Civic Association.

The ordinance, introduced by Council Member Howard Shook, authorizes the mayor’s office to enter into an agreement to buy the land from Livable Buckhead, a nonprofit organization whose mission includes holding potential green space until public agencies have funds to purchase it.

The ordinance notes that the city’s Project Green Space Plan of 2009 identified Council District 7, the eastern part of Buckhead, as being underserved with park and green spaces. The city’s costs are to be covered by the Park Impact Fee North fund.
