The Atlanta Housing Authority Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to transfer land to the city of Atlanta enabling the city to deliver a tract of land to the Atlanta Public Schools under the terms of a recent agreement concerning the Atlanta BeltLine. The agreement requires the transfer of 10 acres of the Bankhead Courts public housing community to the city of Atlanta and another parcel of land from Atlanta to APS.
The Atlanta Board of Education voted unanimously to approve the BeltLine TAD Intergovernmental Agreement in a city council meeting in January. APS receives more than 50 cents of every dollar of property taxes paid in the city of Atlanta.
As the Atlanta BeltLine increases property values and boosts the tax digest, APS benefits from increased revenues. Once complete, the Atlanta BeltLine will connect 45 neighborhoods, 22 schools and learning institutions across the city.
“With the Atlanta Housing Authority Board’s vote, we are moving forward with an essential component of the agreement to fund the Atlanta BeltLine,” said Mayor Kasim Reed.
