The Atlanta Ballet and Atlanta Opera are two of the first artistic organizations to seek bookings at the new Performing Arts Center at City Springs, the publicly owned venue in Sandy Springs, the city announced Jan. 11.

The ballet and opera “are currently finalizing details” for performances in the spring of 2019, officials said. Additionally, the newly formed City Springs Theatre Company will present five productions during the inaugural 2018-19 season.

The Performing Arts Center will offer a main stage with a seating capacity of about 1,100. City Springs, the 14-acre redevelopment of downtown Sandy Springs, is scheduled to open in August.

The Atlanta Ballet was founded in 1929 and is one of the nation’s premier dance companies and the official State Ballet of Georgia. The Atlanta Opera was founded in 1979, is a recognized regional opera company and offers 32 performances in its mainstage season and Discoveries series. City Springs Theatre was formed by Sandy Springs residents to produce quality musical theater and highlight regional talent.
