No arrests in shooting death of Lithonia tattoo artist

No arrests have been made in the shooting death of a Lithonia tattoo artist in his townhome, police said Monday.

The shooting victim was identified Monday as Andrew Wayne Fortune, 27, who operated Black Heart Ink LLC in his Wellington Chase Court home.

Initial reporting on the case over the weekend erroneously said police had made two arrests in the case. DeKalb detectives said Monday that no arrests have been made, and no warrants have been issued.

Police say the two suspects entered Fortune's home Friday night and demanded money. Fortune and one of the suspects engaged in a struggle and the victim was shot, police say. He later died at Grady Memorial Hospital.

Fortune's family contacted the AJC Saturday.

"We are deeply saddened that his life was cut short in a senseless arm robbery at his home," said family spokesman Connie F. Smith.

"Our Andrew was talented as a young soccer player as early as age 5," Smith said in a statement released Saturday. "He played on the State Olympic Development Team and the Gwinnett Soccer Association teams. Following his 2002 graduation from Decatur High School, he attended Howard University, where he studied architecture, on a soccer scholarship."

Smith said Fortune is survived by his parents, Wayne and Christine Fortune, of Stone Mountain; and a sister, Alyssa Fortune, of Hyattsville, Md.
