Though Decatur’s school board tabled an agreement with the city on annexation Tuesday, a majority of the board favors the move long term. One reason is revealed in Decatur’s Annexation Master Plan, released earlier this week, showing annexation would bring City Schools Decatur a significant net financial gain.
CSD’s estimated general fund balance for Fiscal Year 2015 is $11.4 million and without annexation would shrink to $3.7 million by FY 2020, with the current millage of 20.5 mills getting increased to 21.5. With annexation that 2015 balance would increase to an estimated $18.3 million by FY 2020 with the millage remaining steady.
