Alpharetta has announced that this spring it will begin implementing a phased, multi-year master plan to improve Windward Park.

The 2.3-acre property at 2225 Lake Windward Drive, formerly the Windward Soccer Complex, will receive a double-loop walking trail, two pavilions with shade covers, open-table seating, restrooms, bench swings and additional parking lot lighting, according to the announcement.

“A large play area for guests of all ages and abilities” is planned, along with rain gardens to handle stormwater on-site, flowering shrubs, perennials, and shade and understory flowering trees, the city said.

“The features of this park will benefit the surrounding neighborhoods and the design adds more open space for Alpharetta residents and visitors to enjoy the beautiful outdoors,” said Morgan Rogers, recreation, parks and cultural services director.
