The Alpharetta City Council has adopted a budget that leaves the property tax millage rate at 5.750 – unchanged since 2009 – and sets three public hearings on the rate for later this month.
The hearings are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., July 16, and 6:30 p.m., July 23, in the council chambers at Alpharetta City Hall, 2 Park Plaza.
While the millage rate represents an increase in property taxes of 10.19 percent due to this year’s reassessments, city officials pointed out that citizens have tax relief through a $40,000 homestead exemption, “among the highest such exemptions in Georgia.”
Budget highlights include $23 million for capital investments in such projects as street resurfacing, traffic signal repairs and replacing the synthetic turf field at North Park; expanded Recreation, Parks & Cultural Services programs including the new Cultural Arts Center and newly renovated Wills Park pool; and full absorption of the cost of street lighting along public roadways currently funded by private citizens.
