The Alpharetta City Council has approved spending $64,400 to have eight emergency call boxes installed in three city parks.

Four of the boxes will go to Wills Park, and two each, to Webb Bridge and North parks, according to a staff report to the council. The call boxes are solar-powered and use cellular networks, so wiring will not be necessary.

Funds will come from the budget for replacing lightning-detection equipment at the three parks; because of upgraded phones and apps, that equipment is no longer needed, staff said.

Case Systems Inc. is the sole-source vendor for this project, as it is the only manufacturer and installer of the Lexan call boxes the city currently uses in the parks system. “It was important for us to have the same emergency call boxes in all our parks for proper maintenance and repair,” staff said.

The Public Safety Department has approved the locations of the call boxes, staff said.
