The Alpharetta City Council has awarded a $262,893 construction contract for a batting pavilion at Wills Park and authorized having the Alpharetta Youth Baseball Association contribute $115,000 toward the project.
Riley Contracting will construct a pavilion of about 7,000 square feet in size, with five large batting cages, one pitching lane and one soft-toss area, according to a staff report prepared for a recent Council meeting. The structure would be located near Fields 1-4 at Wills Park, 1755 Old Milton Parkway.
The Youth Baseball Association worked with the city’s Recreation and Parks Development and an architect, Design Works, to design the batting pavilion and provide construction specifications for bid purposes.
Riley submitted the lowest bid of five, $238,693, and staff worked with the contractor to upgrade the base bid with $7,850 to paint the roof and gutters and $16,350 for upgraded netting. The work is to be completed by late spring or early summer.
Riley and its baseball experts, Better Baseball, have extensive experience in batting pavilion set-up and equipping, having worked for Forsyth County, the city of Tyrone and others, staff said.
