The Alpharetta City Council has approved two change orders totaling $203,342 for additional design work on two road improvement projects.

The changes were proposed by Pond & Co., the city’s engineering consultant, for the Academy Street project from Loxford Lane to Fire Station 81; and the Webb Bridge Road project from the Big Creek Greenway to Webb Bridge Way, according to a staff report to the council.

The Academy change order will cost $47,400 and adds pedestrian lighting, modifies the placement of curbs and gutters, and replaces four-foot-wide bicycle lanes in each direction with three-foot-wide striped shoulders, among other changes, staff said. The modifications will require revisions to grading, retaining walls, drainage, signage, utility and other plans.

The Webb Bridge changes, costing $155,942, follows comments made by residents at an Oct. 15 open house, staff said. The changes include extending a multi-use trail and sidewalks, and designing enhanced pedestrian crossings at Creekview Elementary and Webb Bridge Middle schools.
